Variability of Sub-mjy Radio Sources
We present 1.4 GHz VLA observations of the variability of radio sources in the Lockman Hole region at the level of ≥ 100µJy on timescales of 17 months and 19 days. These data indicate that the areal density of highly variable sources at this level is < 5 × 10 −3 arcmin −2. We set an upper limit of 2% to the fraction of 50 to 100µJy sources that are highly variable (∆S ≥ 50%). These results impl...
متن کاملIntraday Variability in Northern Hemisphere Radio Sources
We summarize results from flux density monitoring campaigns performed with the 100 m radio-telescope at Effelsberg and the VLA during the past 15 yrs. We briefly discuss some of the statistical properties from now more than 40 high declination sources (δ ≥ 30◦), which show Intraday Variability (IDV). In general, IDV is more pronounced for sources with flat radio spectra and compact VLBI structu...
متن کاملEstimating the Number of Wideband Radio Sources
In this paper, a new approach for estimating the number of wideband sources is proposed which is based on RSS or ISM algorithms. Numerical results show that the MDL-based and EIT-based proposed algorithm havea much better detection performance than that in EGM and AIC cases for small differences between the incident angles of sources. In addition, for similar conditions, RSS algorithm offers hi...
متن کاملParsec Scale Properties of Radio Sources
We present a new complete sample of radio sources selected from the B2 and 3CR catalogues, with no bias respect to the jet velocity and orientation. Using preliminary data we investigate the parsec scale properties of radio sources with different radio power and kpc scale morphology. We stress the evidence for high velocity pc scale jets in all sources and conclude that the properties of parsec...
متن کاملRadio Variability of Radio Quiet and Radio Loud Quasars
The majority of quasars are weak in their radio emission, with flux densities comparable to those in the optical, and energies far lower. A small fraction, about 10%, are hundreds to thousands of times stronger in the radio. Conventional wisdom holds that there are two classes of quasars, the radio quiets and radio louds, with a deficit of sources having intermediate power. Are there really two
